Dock Pros

Most people do not realize that dock pilings are exposed to Shipworms, which are also called "wood boring worms" or referred to as "sea termites. Shipworms aren't true insects. They come from the mollusk family. "Molluscs" are the largest marine phylum, comprising about 23% of all the named marine organisms.

Shipworms live in the salt water. Although they eat wood as a food source, these pest can't survive without water. Once shipworms find your dock pilings, they burrow through the wood until there's nothing left. This can be very dangerous for anyone standing on the dock. It will eventually collapse into the water. When your pilings have Barnacles attached to them, these creatures invest the wood at these points. Sometimes, it is so bad that a section of the pilings is eaten away. A product which is called a Snap jacket can fix this problem. It is less expensive to install snap jackets, then replacing the pilings. Snap jackets has a 50 year warranty on the product.

Our pictures in our gallery section shows a damaged pilings after the Barnacles have been removed, and after the snap jackets had been installed.
